Homework
2-4 hours per week. Students may have to spend up to 2 hours reviewing some concepts. Tutoring does not replace homework time, it enhances it.Assessment
As we go through the sessions, I will ask questions to help deepen understanding and to assess mastery.Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 12
These one-on-one ongoing tutoring sessions for biology, environmental science, and general science will help you gain mastery over your science course this year. We can review difficult concepts, troublesome homework problems, test prep, and any labs or projects. My goal is to help you understand the concepts. If you need a particular concept retaught, it may take several sessions to do so. Examples of topics that we can discuss include mitosis, meiosis, genetics, photosynthesis, DNA, RNA, ecology, and all others included in a typical, middle/high school Biology course. "General Science" refers to courses taught in middle school or basic science questions. Because Chemistry is such a precise and complicated science, I am not able to tutor for chemistry under this course. Students are expected to have reviewed the concepts prior to the tutoring session and post any questions along with the topic for the session in the classroom at least 24 hours before our session in order to maximize our time together. Please have your notes ready and share with me any content that you would like to review via the classroom so I can prepare for our session. I do use videos to help review certain subjects. As an experienced and certified secondary science teacher, I look forward to using my expertise to help you learn.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
I use a variety of learning tools to engage learners of all learning styles. I may use videos, images, educational websites, charts, and other resources to best teach your child, but they will always be appropriate for the age of your child and relevant to the subject that is being discussed.
Supply List
Please have your notes ready along with a writing utensil/note taking device. Also, be sure to post what you would like to review during our session. If you would like to go over test prep, homework, quiz review, or anything that has prewritten questions, please post those in the classroom at least 24 hours before our session. This helps me be prepared for our session and maximize our time together.
External Resources
