Assessment
I am assessing each learner, every class, to make sure they are understanding and able to apply the knowledge I am teaching. I will accommodate the needs of each student, to develop their understanding of phonics and numbers. For the students who stay long term, I have an ongoing list of sight words we work on to develop fluent readers. (Number understanding is largely learned through games.)

"The more that you READ, the more things you will KNOW. The more that you LEARN, the more places you'll GO." -Dr. Seuss

In this class You'll Read, Write, learn the Calendar, grow in your Number comprehension, share Show and Tell and Explore our World through Songs, Movement and Stories. There will be daily worksheets.

A little progress each day adds up to big results!

Reading develops your brain, provides a window into the world around you and helps you do better in all school subjects, so lets have fun learning to READ! A love of books is a great gift to give our children!

The goal of this ongoing Preschool Phonics Class is to help learners become independent readers as they build and decode words with a community of peer learners. In each class a new phonics sound and number will be introduced along with a relaxed discussion topic, often started by Bugzy our classroom puppet. Discussion topics include: bugs, animals, holidays, seasons, healthy eating, jokes/ riddles, manners, imagination and transportation.

The 26 letters of the alphabet will be taught through songs, movement and stories in a way that makes learning relevant, fun and engaging. Along with the 26 letters of the alphabet we will look at digraphs 'ch', 'sh', 'th', 'oa', 'ou' and. 'oi'. Proper letter formation will also be practiced.

Days of the week, months of the year and numbers will be practiced as we look at the calendar each day.

Colours and basic shapes will be enjoyed throughout this course.

'Show and Tell' gives learners an opportunity to know their classmates better as they bring an item to class to share with their peers while gaining experience in public speaking.

Learning Needs
There are movement breaks in every lesson. Every lesson includes activities for auditory, visual and kinaesthetic learners. All learners should have a quiet place to work with limited distractions for everyone to have a positive experience.
Supply List
Please provide your student with a small binder divided into three sections that they can put their work into after each class. The first section of the binder will be for numbers, the second section for phonics and the last section for other crafts/ exercises done in class.
Some organization will be necessary as there will be new printout(s) for each lesson. Your binder will become a resource for home review/ practice. It will also become a beautiful portfolio to celebrate your student's learning.
During class your learner should have a solid work surface, ideally a table, a pencil to practice writing and coloured pencils/ crayons.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am an Early Education Teacher of 20 years and informal ESL Teacher. I strive to make lessons engaging and interactive. My experience teaching both in Canada and overseas has allowed me to see diverse classrooms and teaching situations. I homeschooled my own kids and know that it can be a challenge to schedule in everybody’s academic and social needs while giving them opportunity to develop their own unique talents. My three kids are grown now. One is working in the film industry, another is studying nursing and another is working in recreational sports. I want to support families, like you, who are learning at home.

When I’m not teaching I enjoy working in the garden and growing my own food.
Bye! I’m off to the garden! See you next time!
