Beginner Level
This course continues the forensic science journey into the field as well as the lab. We will cover the following subfields of Forensic Science: • Forensic Pathology • Forensic Odontology, prostheses, and medical implants • Histology and Serology • Forensic Toxicology • Forensic Entomology • Entomotoxicology • Forensic Epidemiology • Forensic Anthropology (bones) • Historical Medical Analysis We will also work through a variety of real and hypothetical case studies. Students who are interested will be able to do a facial reconstruction project (supply list will be provided). Finally, we will work through a unique, 2-week mock investigation involving nine sets of bones from an archaeological excavation. While this class is listed as the second high school forensic science course, it is not necessary to have taken "Forensic Science - High School" prior to this class. Each class in my series covers a separate areas of evidence.

This lesson covers the development of forensic pathology and the initial attempts to analyze bodies to determine the cause of death. We will also discuss the development and evolution of the coroner system and the rise of the Forensic Pathologist.

Parental Guidance
While this is a forensic science class that covers real crimes, I ensure that all materials are age appropriate.
Pre-Requisites
It is not necessary to have taken Forensic Science - High School prior to this class.

I have been teaching Forensic Science for 20 years, at the college, high school, and middle school level. I have written a Forensic Science course manual which is used by college students, and I have been asked to run workshops for a variety of professional Forensic Science organizations. My background includes a law degree (11 years as a lawyer), a Master's in the History of Science and Law, and graduate work in Forensic Science. I am also a homeschooling parent who works diligently to create experiences that go beyond the typical classroom.
