Beginner Level
Welcome! In this 4 week course, we will cover everything learners need to know in order take amazing notes and how to use those notes later. This class is great for those just starting on their note taking journey and those who need help with organizing and using the notes they already take. Learners will need a notebook, black pen or regular pencil, and 5 different colors of highlighters. Each week will focus on a specific aspect of note taking with examples and an opportunity to practice. Week One: This week we will cover a variety of formats for different subjects and students will get an opportunity to choose a format that they like and practice taking notes on a given topic. Students will choose a format and discuss the pros and cons of it. They will then comment on another learner's post with an agree or disagree and why response. Week Two: This week we will cover how to create and use diagrams and visuals in our notes. Students will be given an opportunity to create a diagram using information given. Students will then choose a topic to create a diagram on and present it in a video. Students will complete a Kahoot! Quiz about Diagrams and Visuals to practice what kind of information to use in a diagram. Week Three: This week will focus on what to take notes on and how to employ easy shorthand into your notes to write more efficiently. Students will get an opportunity to practice what works for them on a given topic. Students will create a 3-5 minute presentation about a topic from a list I will provide and post it in the classroom. Students will choose one of their classmate's presentations to watch and take notes practicing their preferred shorthand and post either a picture or a pdf of their shorthand. Week Four: This week students will learn the art of highlights and rewrites in order to use their notes to study. We will create a system that they will be able to use in any class. Students will practice both of these skills using the notes we have taken in the previous class. Students will choose a shorthand upload from the previous week (from another student) and rewrite it using the methods talked about this week. Students will also work together to correctly highlight important information in a given page of notes that I will provide.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to take organized notes and use them effectively.

Lesson 3:
What to Note and Shorthand
Two different topics will be discussed this week. We will discuss what to focus on when taking notes so as to understand how to weed out unnecessary information. Then we will cover the art of shorthand. Shorthand is helpful for obtaining maximum information with minimal writing. This can be helpful for learners who generally require more time to write, or for situations where an instructor moves through material faster than is easy to keep up with. There is a practice activity for students.
Lesson 4:
Highlights and Rewrites
This lesson is all about how to use your notes after you've taken them. How do we use our notes to study in the best way possible? Why is a word-for-word rewrite not actually the best way to study in that format? How can highlighting be used constructively? These questions, along with many others, will be answered in this lesson. There will be a practice activity for students to complete with this lesson.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Miss Izzy and I was definitely born to teach. I have a General Studies degree that covers topics such as teaching and learning, psychology, and humanities. Learning can, and should, be a lot of fun! I am always excited about trying something new, and I love to help others learn new things as well. I, myself, was a very interesting student, and that really helps me to be able to cater to a large variety of learning styles. I am more than happy to accommodate all students to the best of my ability. I believe that learning should be equitable and accessible to every student who has the desire to learn. Let's talk about your learner and how we can work together to meet their needs!
I offer a variety of classes such as Greek Mythology, Beginner Spanish, Reading Tutoring, and School/Life Skills.
I have lived in Guatemala off and on for a little over 9 years, and it taught me so much more about teaching in various ways. I also operate a nonprofit in Guatemala that works in a rural village educating those who do not always have the opportunity to attend school.
Before I started teaching online, I worked for a national literacy non-profit as a Site Coordinator and a tutor. I worked with both elementary students learning to read and helped train the volunteers that came in to tutor them.
I have 2 delightful dogs who love to snuggle with, Sammie and Odyss, and I really am so excited to be your teacher!
