In this Strange History class we’ll look into a small island off the coast of Nova Scotia: Oak Island. A tiny piece of land that has been drawing treasure hunters to it’s shore for centuries and is still offering up mysterious clues, only deepening it’s mystery and keeping us intrigued hundreds of years after the first discovery of the elaborate tunnel system supposedly installed to protect a massive treasure. In this class we’ll look at the history of the island, the people who’ve searched for the historical treasure, some even losing their lives in the process, the supposed curse, and the groups of people who are still trying to uncover answers to the mystery to this day. Class structure is a quick meet and greet time, followed by a PowerPoint class (where students mute their microphones), followed by a question and answer period! Class is typically around an hour long, but can go long depending on how many questions the students have at the end of the class, but you’re always welcome to leave when you need!

Sources
I utilize many books and websites when researching and cross referencing my classes. In this particular class I used books The Curse of Oak Island: The Story of the World’s Longest Treasure Hunt by Randall Sullivan and Secret Treasure of Oak Island: The Amazing True Stories of a Centuries Old Treasure Hunt by D’Arcy O’Conner. Websites used are history.com, Smithsonian.com, and britannica.com, among others relevant to the topic.
