I’ve combined my favorite hands-on science experiments into this really sweet science class! Week 1: Oreo Moon Phases This science lesson is designed to teach children the phases of the moon the fun way, with Oreos! I will introduce the phases of the moon and students will spend time creating the phases of the moon with Oreos. Week 2: Cookie Fossil Dig Learn what a paleontologist is and how they excavate fossils by completing a cookie fossil dig. Together we will learn about paleontologist and fossils, then we will practice excavating bones (chocolate chips) out of the Earth (a chocolate chip cookie). This science lesson is a fun, engaging, hands-on way for students to learn what it’s like to be a paleontologist. Week 3: The Three States of Matter with Root Beer Floats This science lesson is designed to teach children the three states of matter while they make Root Beer Floats. I will introduce the three states of matter and students will spend time making Root Beer Floats. Students will observe the three states of matter as they make their Root Beer Floats. Week 4: Hot Cocoa Sink or Float Experiment Learn whether objects sink or float the fun way, with hot cocoa! This science lesson is a fun, engaging, hands-on way for students to learn whether objects sink or float. First, we will discuss why objects sink or float. Students will learn about density and how the density of an item will either cause it to sink or float. Then we will make hot cocoa together and test which toppings sink or float in the cocoa. Students will make predictions and write about their findings. When their experiment is complete, they can drink their hot cocoa! Yum! **Class Policies: • Late/Missed Class Policy: All courses will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message on the discussion board and exit the classroom after 10 minutes. Class recordings are available upon request. • Technical Problems: If you are experiencing technical problems please contact Outschool Support at Support@outschool.com
Learning Goals
