Why are we always hungry? What is happening when we crave junk food? How does our body change food into the energy we need to do everything from swimming, to listening in class, to sleeping. This course is designed to introduce students to the science of nutrition, food, and energy. If your learner has been interested in eating healthy, understanding sugar and fat, learning the process of digesting food to create energy, or science in general, this class is a relaxing atmosphere to learn the science of food. Major class topics will include: How to read food labels What is a calorie? Understanding the macronutrients: proteins, carbohydrates and fats Why do fats have a bad reputation? Are all sugars the same? How does your body create, store, and burn energy *This class is based on scientific evidence and discusses the science of nutrition. It is not meant to give dietary advice. I am a doctor of biology, not a medical doctor, and more importantly not your learner's personal doctor. This course is not meant to give personalized diet advice, but rather to explain the evidence-based science of food. I have given lectures on nutritional science in general biology university courses and have over 15 years of experience in scientific research.
