Class Experience
Our drawing, painting, and printing art projects will celebrate this is a great time of year and rejoice at the changing weather and colors we see all around us! We will use vibrant floral and natural designs. After brief introductions and check-in for all the supplies needed, we will get right to work! We will use different combinations of art media to create 3 beautiful spring compositions, including watercolors, markers, chalk pastels, and acrylics paints! Artists will learn new...
This class is taught in English.
My goal is for artists to have fun creating spring-themed, colorful artwork using simple supplies and to learn new techniques they can experiment with on their own.
I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in visual arts. I have taught K-12 graders for the last 15 years in a variety of subjects, including a monthly art program that focused on art elements and the art masters. I have been teaching art classes on Outschool for almost 2 years in a variety of painting, drawing and mixed-media classes. I enjoy teaching simple concepts that allow my students to experiment, explore and express themselves in new ways. I love discovering how one technique can have unexpected results and even be used in new ways. Sharing these colorful ideas with young artists makes the process even more exciting- I often learn from them as well!
No specific homework is assigned, but students are encouraged to try more designs or complete projects not completed during class time.
Please gather all the supplies before class in a bag/box/bin so that you can have everything you may need at the beginning of class. Supplies needed include: -Thicker white mixed-media art paper- 4-5 sheets -Watercolors -Black Sharpie marker- Fine tip (this is a medium thickness) -Brushes -Cups -Old towel -Chalk pastels in a variety of colors, including earth tones- here is an example of a nice set Make sure they are Chalk or Soft pastels (powdery) and NOT Oil Pastels https://www.amazon.com/Pastel-24-Assorted-Colors-Square/dp/B00E6ZUWDK/ref=sr_1 - Construction paper to use as a template - Scissors - Tissues - Baby wipes - Acrylic or Tempera paints in a variety of colors - Large and small-sized Ziploc bags Please reach out to me if you are having any trouble getting the supplies as these projects are based specifically on the supplies listed.
Throughout the class, I will have artists share their work with me to see their progress and ask questions as they arise.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please note that one of our projects- chalk pastel architecture- will require some cutting during class to create a template. The cutting required is not detailed and we will draw our lines with pencil first, but younger learners may need some supervision or assistance.
