There’s no specific homework, but artists may want to color and embellish their animals after class if not finished within class time.Assessment
Throughout the class, I will have artists share their work with me to see their progress and ask questions as they arise.Class Experience
Each week, artists will draw a completely different animal and are introduced to various drawing styles, strokes, and marks. The roll of the die determines which version (or which part) of the animal is drawn. Then we will draw together, step-by-step, using simple shapes to lead our sketch. The alphabet is our guide to inspire the next week's animal drawing choice. After brief introductions, artists will be shown examples of the basic shapes and completed drawing options/styles. We will also discuss a few fun facts about the species. Artists will be able to see the selection of animal drawings we will use as our guide (drawn by me) and the die on an overhead art cam. I will visually model and give verbal cues on the steps of how to draw it. We usually have time to draw two versions of the animal. Even though all artists will be drawing the same animal, and using the same visual references, no two will ever look alike! As time allows, artists are encouraged to add colors and embellish their artwork. Animals we have drawn in the past include: Alligator Bear Cat Dog Elephant Fish Giraffe Lemur Narwhal Panda Rabbit Vulture Please have the following supplies on hand: Drawing paper of your choice, 8 1/2 x 11, ideal size Pencil and eraser Black Sharpie markers Colored markers Colored pencils This class is **ongoing** so we meet each week for something new. Families are charged each Sunday for the following week. You may unenroll if you wish (and reenroll if there is still a spot available).
Learning Goals
My goal is for artists to have fun learning to draw an animal each week using different combinations of strokes, lines, and shapes from our game board or sample drawings.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from UCLA
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and have enjoyed working with vibrant colors through markers, paints, and chalk pastels. My style is more simple, abstract, and graphic and this is reflected in my artwork over the years. I enjoyed working with elementary-aged students for a few years when I ran a volunteer-led art program. We did a wide variety of simple art projects that incorporated the elements of art and principles of design, as well as inspiration from an art master. I love the simplicity of these animal drawings and the random process of how to compose them in a game format!
