In this 8 unit self-paced class, students will learn about the 8 planets through pre-recorded videos, games, and crafts. Each video will be about 15-20 minutes long (broken into two parts) containing detailed information about each planet such as its layers and what they are made up of, moons, temperature, visitations by spacecraft, special characteristics, etc... There will also be a game for each unit (trivia, fill in the blank, guess the word, etc...) Students can write down and submit...

Week 1Lesson 1MercuryStudents will learn about the crater-covered surface of Mercury, its layers, temperature, and many fun facts. There will be a focus on the word "atmosphere." Students will play a trivia came and create the surface of Mercury for their craft.Week 2Lesson 2VenusStudents will learn about the surface and layers of Venus. Venus will be compared to its sister, Earth. Many fun facts will be shared. There will be a focus on the word "gases." Students will play a Jeopardy game and create a tin foil art project.Week 3Lesson 3EarthStudents will learn about the surface and layers of Earth, as well as the reason for seasons and day and night. Tectonic plates and continental drift will be discussed. The layers of Earth's atmosphere will be covered. Many fun facts will be shared. Students will play a "What am I" game and create shaving cream planet Earths.Week 4Lesson 4MarsStudents will learn about the surface and layers of Mars. Similarities and differences to planet Earth with be discussed. There will be a focus on the acronym "NASA." Many fun facts will be shared. Students will play "Guess the Word" and create a marble painted Mars.Week 5Lesson 5JupiterStudents will learn about the surface and layers of Jupiter. There will be a focus on the term "gas giant." The Great Red Spot will be discussed in detail. Many fun facts will be shared. Students will play "Fill in the Blank." Students will create a chalk art Jupiter.Week 6Lesson 6SaturnStudents will learn about the surface and layers of Saturn. There will be a focus on Saturn's famous rings. Many fun facts will be shared. Students will play a trivia game and create a paper plate Saturn craft.Week 7Lesson 7UranusStudents will learn about the surface and layers of Uranus. There will be a focus on the term "ice giant." Uranus' unique characteristics will be discussed. Many fun facts will be shared. Students will play a Jeopardy game and create sparkling Uranus crafts.Week 8Lesson 8NeptuneStudents will learn about the surface and layers of Neptune. Neptune's unique characteristics will be discussed. Many fun facts will be shared. Students will play "Fill in the Blank" and create a marble painted Neptune craft.
- Students will learn detailed information about each of the 8 planets and test out their knowledge through various games. A craft for each planet will help to consolidate the learning.
I am a certified elementary school teacher. I taught science for 5 years in a live classroom and have been teaching online for 5 years. I have also run a live space themed summer camp.

Supply List: Unit 1: white paper, glue, toilet paper, paint (brown, white, black), paintbrush, pencil. Unit 2: black paper, foil paper, paint (brown, yellow, orange), pencil. Unit 3: white paper, shaving cream, container to put shaving cream in, paint (blue and green), paintbrush, pencil, paper towels. Unit 4: white paper, paint (red, brown), container to put paint in, marbles, pencil, scissors. Unit 5: black paper, colored chalk, cup of water, pencil. Unit 6: white paper plate, markers/colored pencils/crayons, scissors, pencil. Unit 7: black paper, scissors, glue, blue tissue paper, pencil. Unit 8: white paper, paint (blue), container to put shaving cream into, marbles, pencil, scissors.
Some of the crafts require the use of scissors, so may require supervision.
