“Principles for the Development of a Complete Mind: Study the science of art. Study the art of science. Develop your senses- especially learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else.” - Leonardo Da Vinci

As shown by the icon for this class of a Star Nursery in the Universe, Gentileschi's Allegory of Astronomy, Van Gogh and Miro's paintings of the skies, this class focuses on the intersection of art and science, and will be taught with a "Mindful STEAM approach" which provides arguably one of the most inspiring learning experiences. Thus, class is offered in a private format, providing Learner with a platform where exploration and expansion are nurtured, making interdisciplinary connections as done by the great polymaths and creators of our common human history.

Class includes the participation of Guest Speaker, Pamela Ocana, M.A., an Outschool star educator, who will introduce astronomy inspired art history from prehistorical cave paintings, antiquity, all the way to modern art.

Learner will discover that the sciences and arts have been closely intertwined since antiquity as can be appreciated by the fascinating connections between astronomy and humanities, traveling from prehistorical cave paintings through ancient civilizations, exploring Stonehenge, a Mayan Observatory, while also learning about master artists and their masterpieces inspired by astronomy. In addition, the class will include the concepts of the Eastern mandalas, sculptures, artifacts, frescoes, stained glass windows from the gothic cathedrals, illuminated manuscripts, paintings, installations, and the emerging genre of Space Art.

Class is structured with a welcome and introduction time; the slide presentation invites engagement in the form of questions, comments, and discussions of exciting new knowledge.

Class is taught in an inclusive, interactive way, in an environment that celebrates curiosity, and experiences learning as a fascinating, enriching, and kindness infused opportunity. Class size is kept small so Learner feels welcome to engage in the process in the areas of special interest

For these reasons, and for gauging Learner's interest level being able to adjust accordingly, I require open mic and camera in my classes so there is a sense of community and engagement with the material. In our mindful STEAM class, Learner is asked to raise a hand when wishing to participate as this encourages grounding, patience and deep listening skills bringing with itself a myriad of benefits.

Class includes information from current and reputable primary sources making the material come to life in a meaningful way. In addition to being learner-friendly by following astronomy and the history of art through their unifying theme, pedagogically speaking, having a centrally weaving subject helps the child organize the many concepts in a way that is clear and memory friendly.

Note to Parent: If Learner has a deep interest and passion in the subjects of astronomy and art history, class may run a bit longer, thus parent may want to plan accordingly so as to allow Learner to fully take advantage of both, Dr. Breezy and Ms. Pamela's areas of expertise.

No previous experience is required.
