US Grade 3 - 6
All children are welcome in my classroom! I teach in a fun and engaging way so students not only learn, but feel comfortable doing so. This class is not therapeutic in nature, students will not be asked personal questions. No homework will be given. The video for the week will be posted on Monday morning, central time. Discussion posts will be on Wednesday. Students will be asked to watch the video as well as interact with the discussion posts. When we are shy or quiet, it is hard to make new friends. People may just not see us or not engage when they do. We are going to discuss not how to change our personalities, but how to build our confidence and meet new people while feeling more comfortable. #1 How to engage with others. How do you get started when you see someone you want to be friends with? How do I keep the conversation going? #2 Not all people need to be our friends. Let's choose wisely! What does that look like? What personality traits are we looking for in a friend? #3 What am I supposed to say? Age-appropriate conversation starters to the rescue. #4 How can we build our confidence and emotional intelligence? Self-esteem is how we see ourselves, let's grow it together. #5 What questions can we use to make ourselves AND our new friends more comfortable and solve little problems before they become big ones. #6 Assertiveness is hard when you are shy, let's ease our way into it. Sticking up for ourselves, saying no and not allowing people to use us just because we are quiet. The videos are shorter than a live class. Your child is welcome to pause, rewatch and take notes. Since this is not a live class with interaction, all of the information can be presented in a shorter time frame. Thus making it more informative and easier for students to sit through.
