PLEASE NOTE: this class is in very high demand and I now enroll students by request only. If you see any "availability" listed on line, it is likely to be incorrect. Please contact me to discuss up to date availability.

In this class I will help your child learn skills necessary to communicate successfully. We will chat about any subject that interests your child, and during the class we will focus on a variety of social and grammar skills. We might talk about an important event in your child's day, a book they have read, an activity, friends, family or maybe a subject that they enjoy. While we are chatting, I will help your child learn important skills without specifically lecturing about them. Some of the topics I explore include taking turns to talk and listen, how to be an active listener, asking questions, answering questions, speaking in complete sentences, modulating voice tone and volume, body language, grammar skills and presenting information in an orderly manner. I find that elementary age children rarely have one on one interactions with adults beyond their parents, and it is important for this age group to learn to express themselves confidently and competently with people beyond immediate family. This is a private class, so your child will have my undivided attention during the entire 30 minutes. I am a fun and casual teacher, and have extensive experience working with many children. Most children sign up for this class regularly so we can establish a relationship and build on our conversations from week to week.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to express themselves clearly and confidently. Your child will learn that their opinions are important, and also learn that the opinions of others are important too. We will discuss how your child can interact with other children to address problems, ways to talk with adults and general conversation skills so they are welcomed into group activities.

I have worked with children ages 3-18 for over 25 years. My experience includes a broad range of skills from pre-reading through university preparation. My specialty is English language learning. I have taught preschool as a lead teacher, and also substituted regularly in elementary and middle school classrooms. Additional experience includes private tutoring for Spanish, reading skills and college essay writing. I also enjoy teaching English as a second language to adults and children. I have worked both in person, and on line, and I am familiar with skills necessary to make both venues successful. I have an undergraduate degree in Engish/Spanish and a graduate degree in communications. I take my teaching seriously, but I try to present the material in a fun way to encourage learners to participate and enjoy learning.
