Homework
1 hour per week. Students will also be given two age-appropriate short assignments each week. One of the assignments will be sent to the teacher (Examples: worksheet, video of performance, interactive Google Slides game). I will monitor these assignments and give feedback. Students can also interact with each other about their performances. The other assignment will be an optional at-home assignment. It will be given as an "Ask Me" sheet. Parents and families will be encouraged to ask their children directed questions about topics discussed. Homework assignments will take about 10 minutes a week.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
This self-paced class is part 2 in the First Grade Music Class Series.

This first grade music class is a joy-filled, interactive class. It will be taught in a flexible format. Two 15-20 minute videos will be sent to students for eight weeks (16 videos total), and students will interact with the teacher and other students by submitting videos, completing worksheets, and playing interactive games through Google Slides.

In this music class, students will begin learning the foundations of music. They will physically, aurally, and visually explore these concepts:
-Steady Beat
-Rhythm: Quarter Notes and Eighth Notes, Quarter Rest
-Melody: Music Staff, (sol-mi), (la)
In practicing these concepts, students will read, write, perform, move, sing, use instruments, listen, respond, improvise, create, and make connections.

Each week, students will be sent two interactive videos. Students can watch and interact with the lessons included. Together, we will sing simple songs and rhymes, move to classical and folk music, perform action songs, and listen to beautiful musical stories. Students will begin their journey to musical literacy.

Students will also be given two age-appropriate short assignments each week. One of the assignments can be sent to the teacher (Examples: worksheet, video of performance, interactive Google Slides game). The other assignment will be an optional at-home assignment. It will be given as an "Ask Me" sheet. Parents and families will be encouraged to ask their children directed questions about topics discussed.

Students can continue their foundation of a life-long love of music through this class. Age-appropriate National Core Arts Standards (create, perform, respond, connect) will be used. This music class will follow a Kodaly-inspired curriculum. To participate in class, students will need rhythm sticks (can be made from materials found around the house), a shaker, a scarf, a favorite stuffed animal, a ball that can bounce, and room to move around.

This is part two of a yearly first grade music curriculum class. It is recommended that students either take part 1 of the class or have some basic musical experience before taking this course.
