Class Experience

Musical First Steps is a joy-filled, interactive music class. In this introduction to music, children will learn how to be tuneful with their voices, keep a steady beat, and express themselves through music. This 30-minute class is designed to be developmentally appropriate for early childhood. Together, we will sing simple songs, perform rhymes and fingerplays, move to classical and folk music, perform action songs and circle games, and listen to beautiful musical stories. This class will be sure to set the foundation for a life-long love of music!

I will teach this course in an engaging way for 3-5 year olds. I will be on the floor with the children, I will move with the children, and I will celebrate with the children. We will interact through our music making. After class is over, songs will be provided to parents to help continue with learning at home.

Children who attend this class do not need any prior experience in music. I will help lead them in their musical first steps!
Learning Goals
1) Students will learn how to be tuneful with their voices. They will sing simple songs, they will echo the teacher, they will respond with their singing voice, and they will create their own melodies with their voices.

2) Students will learn how to keep a steady beat. They will move to the beat and perform beat motions to many songs and rhymes.

3) Students will learn how to express themselves through music. While listening to beautiful classical and folk music, students will move their bodies expressively.
