Save a Peep! Bird Nest Stem Challenge

Oh no! Your Peep needs a nest fast. Can you make them one out of just toothpicks and jelly beans? Can you make it at least 2 inches tall? I hope so because you are about to be challenged!

Help! Your Peep waited to long and now needs a nest fast! Come join our challenge to build a Peep nest out of just jelly beans and toothpicks. The most challenging part will be making sure your Peep is at least 2 inches above your table top! Is that too easy? No worries, I can make it harder. How about limiting the number of toothpicks and jelly beans you can use? Or how about making a nest on top of a 12 inch tower of jelly beans and toothpicks. Yep, we'll be completing a couple different build challenges in this class. Plenty to keep you challenged and engaged before eating all the jelly beans and Peeps!

Students will need 1 bag of jelly beans, plenty of toothpicks and at least 1 Peep chick.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to creatively solve engineering design problems while creating a Peep bird nest.

Maryland Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I grew up in Wisconsin where I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education at UW Stout. I've taught for the public school system for 14 years in a variety of positions including classroom teacher, interventionist, ELL teacher and elementary science lab teacher. I hold a Masters Degree in Reading and School Administration from Johns Hopkins. After leaving the public school system I've spent the last several years teaching middle school Science and History at a homeschool tutorial while being a homeschool mom. I enjoy teaching hands on engaging courses that spark the interest of students with the ultimate goal of encouraging them to become life long learners. I welcome student interaction and questions.

In my personal life I LOVE to read, travel and explore new areas, especially the beach! I am a Girl Scout leader and adore every single girl in my troop. As a troop leader I am certified in several outdoors areas- archery, canoe, kayak, camping, etc. I can't wait to share some of my love of the outdoors with families here on Outschool.
