US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
It's reading time! Is your learner comfortable with the basic letter sounds? Is he or she beginning to read basic short vowel words? Then they are ready for this class! In this ongoing class, your student will learn to recognize and pronounce special sounds such as "spl" in "splash," "ey" in "they," and "ear" in "earth." What about subtle differences such as the "th" sounds in "this" and "thick?" Yep, we'll cover those too! Students are often discouraged as they begin their reading journey when they encounter letter combinations that they can't sound out. These are "special sounds" and require a little extra focus and attention. In my Outschool classroom, learners are equipped with the skills they need to crack the code on these challenging sounds and progress in their reading studies. Two worksheets are uploaded into the classroom for each lesson. One is a worksheet that your learner will need to have printed for the class. The other is an optional worksheet with dotted-font letters that they can trace to use as review after class. Week of: 8/8: ck, e, o, y, ay 8/15: st, pl, fr, tr, sh 8/22: th, th, bl, cl, fl 8/29: gl, br, dr, pr, gr 9/5: sm, sc, sk, sp, cr 9/12: tw, spl, spr, scr, squ 9/19: sn, sl, str, sw, thr 9/26: ar, ch, or, ou, ow Please let me know if you have any questions! Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Pensacola Christian College
Hello! I hope to have you join me in my classroom! I have a degree in education and have taught first and second grade and high school English in a private school. For the last 9 years, I have homeschooled my own children, which included teaching each of them to read. From the very beginning, we found that a strong phonics foundation was the key to reading success. Hope to see you soon!
