Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
There will be four lesson themes we will follow for each month. I want to support learners in the best way possible, so the themes will lead the conversations. We will go over most updated information on the theme of the week and then take the lesson where we need it to go to support the members. Club meeting time will be on Wednesday with the following themes and general information topics throughout month:

Week 1 - 1st Wednesday of the month- Content and organization, use of clear and vivid language, structuring speeches/presentations, eliminating distracting language

Week 2 - 2nd Wednesday of the month- Delivery of Public Speaking Events/Presentations, presenting claims, and strategic use of research and media

Week 3 - 3rd Wednesday of the month- Partner and group work skills, tips, practice, and organization of tasks and information

Week 4 - 4th/5th Wednesday of the month- Adapting to audience/context, developing background knowledge of audience, setting, and visual aids

In this class, the goal is to cover strategies and tips to reduce anxiety, preparing for public speaking/presentations, successful tips and strategies to use when working with others, Speech & Debate topics and events, and anything else that we need to discuss and research that the learners want to know more about.

I like to have a respectful, encouraging, safe space for all learners, so it is important that everyone knows that we will speak with kindness even when providing feedback to help others improve. This is not the place for bullies. Public speaking is not an easy task and takes a lot of courage. I want you to feel more confident after each lesson, so your behavior and mindset is essential to reach success.

This will involve a lot of discussion, games, videos, and practice, with me supporting you all the way through.
