Class Experience

Public Speaking can be fun, but also intimidating. Each week in this 5 week class learners will give a 2 minute speech, and receive feedback from the teacher then learn public speaking skills that will help them with the next week's speech and will improve over the course of the class. Each week they will be given a general category for the next week's class and should spend the time in between classes preparing a speech for the following day's class. Learners can pick the specific topic for their speeches and are encouraged to chose something they're interested in.

Overview of class speeches:
Week 1: Introductions, introduce yourself to the class and your teacher
Week 2: Informative, tell the class information about something you know a lot about
Week 3: How to, demonstrate or tell the class how to do something
Week 4: Narrative, tell the class a story
Week 5: Persuasive, try to persuade the class to see your point of view

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a former Home School student who has never stopped learning! I love history and telling stories verbally and through writing, and I want to share that passion with others. I believe the statement is true: “Those who don’t learn from History are doomed to repeat it.” We need to learn from the past to shape our own futures and the world in general. I believe the best way to learn about history is to learn about the people who lived through it and what they experienced and tell their stories. I love telling stories through writing and enjoy public speaking, so storytelling is a natural combination of the two.

I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of places from teaching/coaching drama and dance for homeschoolers in a group setting, to homeschooling two young children for a few months, to teaching English as Second Language (ESL) to college students, to teaching Arts and Crafts at a Summer Camp. I am currently a ESL teacher online with VIPKid. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Communication from Stevenson University.

I love to travel both in the US and internationally. I’ve spent time in almost every state on the East Coast and driven through the rest. I’ve visited seven different countries and lived in Asia for 17 months.
