In this class, we will be going over how to identify the tone and mood of a fictional story, art, and songs. Annotation or note-taking is encouraged so that students actively participate in their learning. Through developing and practicing the understanding of this literary element, students will see improvement in comprehension of fictional texts, art, and films. I have a welcoming, respectful learning environment that is a safe space for all students and learners. I like to have discussion based learning while going through the lesson slides. Questions are always encouraged, as I want to best support learners. During the lesson, I will go through the different aspects of tone and mood in Fiction as well as how to determine the difference of the two terms. We will also discuss and build a better understanding of point of view and theme, as they are significant to the plot of a story. We will practice together with a variety of art portraits and pictures, short films, and the short stories "Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry and "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson.
