US Grade 1 - 3
In this ongoing/enrichment class, students will have an opportunity to practice their public speaking skills. Each week the students will practice giving a speech on various subjects of interest. Every class begins with a warm-up and an activity, using acting techniques to work on their presentational skills. There is always a focus on vocal quality and body language. I will coach them with helpful tips on what to do when they feel nervous or are too excited. I believe in creating a fun encouraging environment for students to flourish. With continued practice, the students will learn to feel more confident when speaking. This is an interactive class and self-expression is encouraged! *Class may run over 10-20 minutes to allow the students to present their speeches for a second time. Students learn four different types of speeches. Topics change weekly. Week of November 10th: Impromptu Speech Week of November 17th: Personal Speech Week of November 24th: Informative Speech Week of December 1st: Storytelling Speech Refund Policy: My classes follow the 'Limited' refund policy model: Full refund until a week in advance or within 24 hours of purchase (until the class starts). Please understand that no refunds will be issued for student no-shows, absences, or technical issues on the student's end. If a student cannot attend a class and you choose not to hold their spot, please stop or pause your subscription before the Sunday of that week's class. You can always re-enroll them when they're next available. Thank you!....Cherita

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Cherita Armstrong. I am a professional actor from New York City. I use acting techniques as a vehicle for young people to increase their presentation and communication skills as well as encourage their overall self-expression. It's quite wonderful to see how students blossom in a short amount of time. I will be teaching Acting Skills and Public Speaking.
I have over 10 years of teaching experience. For over 7 years I worked as a teaching artist in the New York City public schools. As a teaching artist, I taught acting, reading and writing skills, poetry performance, and public speaking. I worked with history teachers to create short theatrical scenes that reinforced what the students were learning. I have also directed after-school drama programs for middle school students. I have worked with primary school children teaching letters and numbers via storytelling. I have taught ESL online to children 4-16.years of age. I'm also an audition coach for kids.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications/Dramatic Arts with a minor in Theatre from Utica College of Syracuse University. As a professional actor, I have worked at NY and regional theatres, on network television shows, films, and commercials.
Learning acting techniques can help in building a child's confidence as they learn communication and presentation skills that will last a lifetime. I believe in creating a fun and encouraging environment so they can flourish! When I am not teaching or performing I love reading a good book, yoga, hiking, thrift shopping, and eating guacamole!
I am also the author of OUT OF THE BOX FUN. 25 Creative Activities To Help You Connect With Your Young People.
