Class Experience

Impromptu Speeches are probably one of the most common forms of public speaking. You're with a group of people and someone asks you to say something with little or no time to think about what you're going to say. What do you do? In this class learners will gain the skills they need to handle this type of situation.

Each day the learners will be given a question. They will spend the first few minutes of class jotting down or thinking about their answer to the question. Then they will take turns giving a 2 minute speech answering the question and receive feedback from the teacher. The remainder of the class will be spent going over public speaking skills to improve the learners Public Speaking.

Day 1: Informative Speech: Give us information about something
Day 2: Narrative Speech: Tell us a story
Day 3: Persuasive Speech: Try to persuade us about something

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a former Home School student who has never stopped learning! I love history and telling stories verbally and through writing, and I want to share that passion with others. I believe the statement is true: “Those who don’t learn from History are doomed to repeat it.” We need to learn from the past to shape our own futures and the world in general. I believe the best way to learn about history is to learn about the people who lived through it and what they experienced and tell their stories. I love telling stories through writing and enjoy public speaking, so storytelling is a natural combination of the two.

I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of places from teaching/coaching drama and dance for homeschoolers in a group setting, to homeschooling two young children for a few months, to teaching English as Second Language (ESL) to college students, to teaching Arts and Crafts at a Summer Camp. I am currently a ESL teacher online with VIPKid. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Communication from Stevenson University.

I love to travel both in the US and internationally. I’ve spent time in almost every state on the East Coast and driven through the rest. I’ve visited seven different countries and lived in Asia for 17 months.
