The class is for students needing extra help writing a paragraph. It will be interactive between myself and the students. In the first class, we will begin with an explanation of the “How-To” paragraph: the sequential steps to doing something, such as playing a game, washing a car, or making a sandwich. Then we will brainstorm ideas for our paragraphs; everyone in the class will write about the same topic. I will model how to write each sentence, reminding them of what they learned in school, then the students will write their own sentences independently as I help. There will be 5 sentences: an introduction, 3 details, and a conclusion. We will review the sentences as a class. In this class, I will focus on the format of the paragraph; simple sentences will be allowed, with proper grammar and punctuation. In the second class, students will review their paragraph and make revisions as needed. Then we will write a second paragraph, on a different topic, that the students will write as independently as possible. Time permitting, sentences may be more complex.
Learning Goals
Students will maintain or improve their writing skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
English is a passion of mine, and I love to pass that feeling on to my students. Yet, when they think writing is hard, it is difficult for them to like it. However, there is an easy way to write! I have been in the classroom for 10 years teaching this and have noticed that, without practice, students tend to forget it and get overwhelmed by their writing assignments. I believe that, by offering this class, I can show students this way of writing, and they will have a better opportunity for success next year.
