US Grade 2 - 4
This multi-day, three week course is for students who can independently write sentences and are ready to learn proper paragraph development and formation. In this class, we will introduce, study, and practice the parts of a paragraph as we work towards writing completed paragraphs independently. With step-by-step instruction, teacher support, discussion, scaffolding, brainstorming engagement, and plenty of hands on practice and activities, students will learn the parts of a paragraph and how to put them all together to write a cohesive, topical, and smooth paragraph with confidence. I use an original slide show by sharing my screen to help students follow along with instruction, discussion, activities, and practice with ease. I will provide graphic organizers and practice pages to use during class that will support and enhance what we are learning. Students will be engaged, involved, and participating throughout each of the classes. They will have opportunities to write with support and conference with the teacher during writing times. Students will also have the opportunity to showcase their hard work, illustrate, and share completed paragraphs with the rest of the class. This will be a supportive, interactive, and engaging environment helping students learn to write a paragraph with ease and confidence. WEEK ONE ~ Topic Sentences - How to write strong introductions ~ Relevant and Irrelevant Details - How to support your topic ~ Transition Words - How to make your ideas flow smoothly WEEK TWO ~ Closing Statements and Clinchers - How to write strong endings ~ Brainstorming a Paragraph Step-By-Step and Begin Writing a Paragraph With Support (Students will complete unfinished paragraphs at home using their graphic organizers and bring paragraphs to next meeting) ~ Diagraming Parts of a Paragraph and Reviewing the Different Parts WEEK THREE ~ Brainstorming New Paragraphs, Writing With Support (completing unfinished paragraphs at home) ~ Sharing Completed Paragraphs and Illustrations With the Class in a Supportive and Encouraging Environment ~ Additional Paragraph Writing Practice ** This group course will need a minimum of two students to run. *** Please note that the focus of this class is to learn and use the parts of a paragraph cohesively. In this group setting, I will not be able to address individual students’ spelling, grammar, or mechanical mistakes of completed paragraphs. If you are interested in having me take your student through this program in a private course, we will have time to address all the fore-mentioned skills, in addition to the content of this course. I offer private classes and I am happy to discuss that as an option for you.
