US Grade 7 - 8
In this semester long course, students will explore topics from the grades 7 and 8 math curriculums and use their skills to solve practical math problems. This course will cover order of operations, variable equations, linear relationships, geometry, statistics, ratios, and perfect squares. We will also review key components of algebra. The class will be delivered with both lecture components and interactive activities. Students will be encouraged to work on problems in class with the help of their teacher. There will also be an opportunity each week for students to review any material from a previous class that they need extra help with. Topics covered during January 2023: • During Week 1 : Students will be introduced to exponents. • During Week 2: Students will be introduced to the order of operations and will practice problems including multiplication, division, parenthesis, and exponents. • During Week 3: Students will focus on multi step word problems and will review the content learned throughout the month of January. Topics covered during February 2023: • During Week 4: Students will practice ordering fractions. • During Week 5: Students will learn how to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions and will use these in word problems. • During Week 6: Students will practice converting fractions to percentages using long division. •During Week 7: Students will be introduced to ratios. Topics covered during March 2023: • During Week 8: Students will review perimeter, area and volume calculations for squares, rectangles and cubes. • During Week 9: Students will be introduced to the properties of circles. • During Week 10: Students will be introduced to area calculations for shapes such as circles, triangles, and parallelograms. Topics covered during April 2023: • During Week 11: Students will review positive and negative numbers and begin performing operations with negatives. • During Week 12: Students will complete word problems involving negative numbers and continue practicing using negatives in various equations. • During Week 13: Students will be introduced to variables and will practice solving for unknown numbers. • During Week 14: Students will continue to practice using variables in various operations. Topics covered during May 2023: • During Week 15: Students will be introduced to linear equations. • During Week 16: Students will practice creating tables of values and defining linear relationships. • During Week 17: Students will practice graphing and evaluating graphs based on how they represent data. • During Week 18: Students will review course content through various fun and interactive activities.
