Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Welcome to Debate Club for Kids! Together, we'll debate a fun new topic each class.

Students will practice public speaking skills while making rational arguments together in this interactive class.

In each class we'll learn tips and tricks for being less nervous when speaking in front of the class. Students will be encouraged to use these new skills during a fun and interactive warm up. We'll then be introduced to the day's topic. All topics will be fun, lighthearted, and student related.

Together with their teacher students will explore the day's topic by answering a series of questions and explaining their reasoning. We'll talk about how we can use these opinions to form arguments during a debate. Students will then have the opportunity to present their arguments, in debate format, at the end of each lesson,

Debating is an important life skill because it teaches students that they can advocate for themselves while remaining calm, friendly, and respectful. It also teaches students that public speaking can be both fun and interesting. Students will also have the opportunity to perfect their listening skills as they are encouraged to listen to and cheer on their friends.

• During the week of November 1st students will debate - what is better to find in a treat bag, candy or toys?

Subsequent topics will be student suggested and this page will be updated weekly. Please note debates change on Wednesdays of each week.

Students will be encouraged to be active participants in each class. This is a beginner class and therefore no experience is necessary. Students 8 and up, with some public speaking experience, may enjoy my other debating class: Arguments and Debates: How to Win Your Case.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.
