🖇️ Prerequisite: None ⏳ Estimated Time Commitment Outside of Class: 1-2 hours each week that class meets ✅ The material of this class is identical to Photography Camp - Creative Photography & The Magic of Composition and Photography for Kids Series - Creative Photography & Working with Composition (ages 8-12). ✅ If your learner has taken Manual DSLR Photography 101, 201, or 101 + 201 for Teens, Manual DSLR Photography 101 + 201 for Kids, or Principles of Composition in Photography for Teens - 1 (Introduction) class, this material was introduced in one lesson, but this course's pace and assignments will provide an opportunity to explore each concept more in-depth than the other classes. We cannot separate what we are taking a photo of from how we arrange it shapes, colors, and lines. Composition is a cornerstone of creative photography! When we understand composition, we can guide the viewer's eye through our photo, creating a successful work of art that people are interested to look at. In this class we will explore composition by studying various photographs and practicing using specific compositional techniques in our own work! This class will discuss how we go about arranging a composition, how we can make changes to composition, and a set of basic methods that can guide our decisions about composition. 🗓️ Schedule Weeks 1-4: Each class, we will explore 1 or 2 specific techniques for organizing a composition (a total of 6 techniques). We will learn the definition of the term and look at example photographs together while discussing the way we see that particular method applied. Between classes, learners will be assigned to create photos utilizing the particular technique(s) that we have learned about that day. Week 5: We will practice analyzing compositions using all of the 6 of the compositional techniques that we have learned. Between classes, learners will be assigned a final project in which they combine all of their new compositional awareness. Week 6: Learners will present final projects, utilizing all techniques discussed in combination. - Students will understand how we go about arranging a composition and how we can make changes to composition. - Students will learn six composition techniques, and practice using them in their photographs. - Students will be able to analyze the composition of a photograph by using the terms learned. - Students will learn to speak about their work with detail and pride, and share it with the group.
