Assignments

1 hour per week. Assignments completed during class time. Weekly feedback sent to parents after each meeting about learner's participation and learning goals.

Assessment

Teacher will check for understanding each week through informal assessments in which learners will show understanding through participation. During class on week 5, learners will be assessed on their spelling via writing in the chat, spelling aloud, or using their writing materials. They will show understanding of phonics implementation of all diphthongs by reading aloud.

Intermediate Level

Vowel teams can be a challenge for young readers!
In this 5 week class, we practice integrating vowel teams  [ai, ay, ee, ea, oa, oe, ue, ui, and ie] into our reading, spelling and writing. Learners connect as we integrate phonics into games, matchup activities, reading, and spelling. We use a fun, interactive slideshow in which learners participate verbally and in writing to share their thinking. Come join us for integral phonics learning in a welcoming atmosphere!

Learning Goals

Learners can recognize and make the sounds of the vowel teams [ai, ay, ee, ea, oa, oe, ue, ui, and ie ]

Learners can recognize spelling patterns and begin to detect incorrect spellings using vowel teams.

-Observe spelling patterns for ai/ay words and practice recognizing correct spellings

-Reading comprehension passages using ai/ay
-Real world connection: What do you prefer to play?

Let's Learn [oa and oe]

 -Read, spell, and write with the [oa] of boat and the [oe] of toe
-Observe spelling patterns for oa/oe words and practice recognizing correct spellings

-Real world connection: Unusual boats

Other Details

Pre-Requisites

To get the most out of this class, learners should be able to independently read CVC words such as cat and run, CVCE words, such as cake and bite, and know enough sight words to read simple sentences independently.

Please bring something to write on and something to write with. Please have your webcam set to normal setting in Zoom (not blurred), so I can see your writing. Thanks!
