Negative self-talk can be a roadblock to a child's self-belief, self-confidence, and reaching their full potential. It can create stress and hinder their ability to make positive changes. This three lesson self-paced course will help learners recognize the power of their thoughts and equip them with strategies to combat the negative self-talk that plagues them. Lesson One: Understanding Negative Self-Talk and its Consequences What is negative self-talk and how does it impact you? Extension Activity: Learners will receive a notes outline page to complete while watching the video, as well as a handout to help identify negative thoughts they struggle with. Lesson Two: Minimizing Our Negative Self-Talk Students will learn to recognize and catch their inner critic to minimize the power of their negative thoughts. We will discuss the following strategies: -Find a pattern: noticing when our negative self talk is the loudest–(time of day, certain activity or people we are around) -Change negative to neutral -Cross-examine them by checking them for truth -Find a higher perspective Extension activity: Learners will be provided with a notes outline page to fill out as they watch the video as well as a handout to help them practice the different strategies discussed during the video. Lesson Three: Review, Practice, and Research We will revisit key concepts covered previously, then engage in exercises to address negative thoughts using examples suitable for your learner's age group. Finally, we'll delve into research from Georgetown's Christine Porath, offering actionable strategies to immediately diminish the influence of negative thinking.
