Students will have optional extension activities and challenges throughout the class.Class Experience
Join me as I walk learners through some of the most important skills for children in developing healthy relationships and friendships. In this five lesson self paced class students will NOT meet live, rather watch videos with extension activities and challenges to help support their learning on this topic. Here is the breakdown: Lesson One: Assertiveness Lesson Two: What are my friendship/relationship rules? Lesson Three: How to communicate our rules and preferences in an assertive way Lesson Four: Setting and Holding Boundaries Lesson Five: Respecting others boundaries and tying it all together Students will be given printables to extend each lesson topic. These printables will build on each other and will also be completed as they are watching the videos. **Please note that due to Outschool's strict policies in regards to avoiding interactions that are "therapeutic in nature" it is important that students are not using the classroom posts to ask for "advice" on specific situations in their lives, rather use the videos and examples in the videos to help apply the learning to their own unique situations. I am incredibly passionate about this topic and so glad you are considering the class. Please reach out with any questions.

Syllabus
5 Lessons
over 5 WeeksLesson 1:
Assertiveness
Students will learn to grasp the significance of their inner voice and learn how to effectively express themselves with kindness and confidence by understanding what it means to be assertive.
Lesson 2:
What are my friendship/relationship rules?
It's essential to explore our preferences and comfort levels within various relationships. This lesson focuses on defining our "rules" regarding interactions with friends, family, possessions, and our bodies as their preferences and boundaries may not always be obvious to others.
Lesson 3:
How to communicate our rules and preferences in an assertive way.
This lesson will reinforce the concept of assertiveness and emphasize the significance of advocating for ourselves in situations where we feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or disrespected.
Lesson 4:
Setting and Holding Boundaries
When clear communication of our needs isn't being respected by others, it's time to establish a boundary. Students will grasp that boundaries shift focus from what we say or expect others to do to what actions we will take.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
We will be discussing body boundaries when it comes to personal space and people touching your body. The touches that will be discussed are: kisses, hugs, tickling, wrestling, putting their arm around you, and people standing/sitting too close.
Please also note that the interactions between the teacher and students is not intended to be therapeutic in nature, and that specific advice and direction on personal situations will be prohibited.
