Part 1 of Narrative Writing offers instruction in the use of three journal types to generate ideas to include in a narrative story or an autobiographical incident. The topics covered include the double-entry journal, the problem/solution journal and using strong verbs, the partner journal and using transitional words and phrases. Students will write journal examples that model entries for a double-entry journal, a problem-solution journal, and a partner journal. Students will practice using strong verbs to replace weaker verbs in their writing. Students will practice using transitional words and phrases in their writing.
Homework Offered
Homework will not be assigned unless a student needs more time to complete independent practice. If this occurs, it will only require about 30 minutes of extra time outside of class.Assessments Offered

Graphic organizers will be provided in the classroom by the teacher. Students should have a small journal or spiral notebook to record information, create charts, and write short narratives. A dictionary or thesaurus will be used on day 2 during the writing skills section of the class.
