Class Experience

In this weekly Teen Mixed Media Club, creative teens will take their art journaling to the next level! Designed for learners who already have experience with mixed media techniques, this club provides an opportunity to explore new ideas, refine skills, and connect with like-minded peers.

What will be taught? Each session begins with a demonstration of a new mixed media technique, such as layering, adding texture, or using found objects. Following the demo, students will have time to work independently on their journals, using a central theme or prompt as inspiration. This class encourages self-expression and creative exploration while building on foundational mixed media skills.

Topics covered:

Advanced layering techniques
Incorporating found objects into your journal pages
Using color and texture to create depth
Exploring unique prompts for creative journaling
Expanding personal artistic style
Class Structure: The class will follow a simple, repeatable structure each week:

Introduction and Demo (15-20 minutes): We’ll begin with a brief introduction to the technique of the day.
Open Work Time (35-40 minutes): Learners will work on their journals, using the technique introduced and focusing on a themed prompt. During this time, students are encouraged to collaborate, share ideas, and ask questions.
Show and Share (10 minutes): The session will end with a short sharing time, where students can showcase their progress and get feedback from both the instructor and peers.
Teaching Style: My teaching style is hands-on, supportive, and student-centered. I believe in giving learners creative freedom while also guiding them with new techniques and challenges each week. The class is a relaxed, social space where learners can explore their artistic voice while receiving feedback and encouragement in a positive environment.

First Month’s Prompts:

Week 2: “Imaginary Places” 11/12

Technique Focus: Blending backgrounds and using different media for effects.

Week 3: “Emotion Through Art” 11/19
