Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
This ongoing class will meet to journal write and find different ways to be inspired and get creative! You are welcome to join any week that interests you or come each week and gain a more a regular practice of journal writing and this shared experience. Below you will find a list of journal writing topics, which will be continuously updated so you know what you will be studying and choose what interests you.

There are many kinds of journals. Some people record their innermost thoughts and feelings daily. Others write a single poem or a few lines of an essay once a week, every few months, or simply "whenever". The wonderful thing about journaling is that there are no rules or restrictions. To get your creative juices flowing, we will start a journal to record inspirational thoughts and ideas, or keep track of little ideas and projects.

You will choose a journal, with or without lines, whatever appeals to you most. Pick the color, size, and texture that you like! Or make your own journal, designing a cover with drawings and photographs. Starting is the most important action. We will talk about how to create inspiration! You never know what will be waiting for you when inspiration strikes.

Each class will begin with a short story. Next we will allow ourselves some writing time. Students will share what they are writing, and learn how to give specific and positive feedback.

Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University
I have over 20 years of experience teaching grades 3 through 8. I hold a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University, where I studied Elementary Education. In addition, I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My classroom environment fosters imagination, growth, and experimentation. Students feel safe exploring the learning process, and proud of their accomplishments. My passion for teaching many subject areas, but particularly reading, writing, arts, and SEL is quite evident as I often believe in weaving the disciplines together in a cross-curricular approach. I have attended many reading and writing conferences over the years to keep up on the most current literacy practices. In my free time I enjoy reading, journaling, blogging, and writing poetry. Sharing this passion with students is a tremendous joy!
