Beginner Level
Welcome! This musical theater conservatory experience is intended for those students who are serious about refining their skills as a musical theater performing artist. This course is kept private and only available to those select students I see great work ethic, talent and potential for a theatrical career. Invitations to my private Conservatory sections are highly competitive. Students are chosen and invited from public sections of other musical theater courses I offer. The qualities I look for when inviting students are: work ethic, focus in class, natural talent, kindness to peers, passion for theater. My intention in creating an exclusive course is to maintain a high quality class environment, so serious theatrical students can advance in a more focused, challenging and positive environment. This course will meet 2 times a week for 15 weeks, over the course of either a school semester or summertime. For those interested, I've created advancing semesters to follow this one. Through this conservatory, I am replicating a high quality, in person Performing Arts Academy experience, while making it lower cost and virtually accessible to a wider audience. I endeavor to create a highly encouraging learning environment and uphold certain behavioral standards of focus and respect in the virtual classroom. This is meant to protect and heighten the class quality and experience for all the students involved. I believe in positive constructive criticism and continual peer observation/support. The syllabus is as follows: Week 1 Day 1: Intro to Acting “Listen/Discover First, React Last” Day 2: Voice Technique “Resonation Play” Week 2 Day 1: Intro to Musical Theater Dance - Technique Class Day 2: Intro to Acting “Instinctual Response/Releasing Inhibitions” Week 3 Day 1: Voice Technique “Upper/Head Register Play” Day 2: Intro to Tap- Technique Class Week 4 Day 1: Intro to Acting “Taking Risks” Day 2: Voice Technique "Lower/Chest Register Play" Week 5 Day 1: Broadway Choreography Class "Hot Honey Rag" - Part 1 Day 2: Intro to Acting “Human Behavioral Observation” Week 6 Day 1: Voice Technique “Classical/Traditional vs. Pop/Contemporary Styling” Day 2: Broadway Choreography Class "Hot Honey Rag" - Part 2 Week 7 Day 1: Comedic Monologue Workshop - Mock Audition Day 2: Voice Technique “Belt Play” Week 8 Day 1: Broadway Choreography Class "Hot Honey Rag" - Part 3 Day 2: Intro to Acting “Be Specific” Week 9 Day 1: Musical Theater Song Workshop - Mock Auditions Day 2: Choreography Class "42nd Street Opening Tap Sequence" - Part 1 Week 10 Day 1: Intro to Acting “Intentions/Tactics” Day 2: Voice Technique “Mix Play” Week 11 Day 1: Choreography Class "42nd Street Opening Tap Sequence" - Part 2 Day 2: Scene Partner Workshop Week 12 Day 1: Voice Technique "Ear Training/ Sight Singing" Day 2: Choreography Class "42nd Street Opening Tap Sequence" - Part 3 Week 13 Day 1: Intro to Acting “Improv Play” Day 2: Voice Technique "Learning How to do Harmony" Week 14 Day 1: Choreography Showcase "Present and teach your own MT Choreography" Day 2: Audition Prep “Cold Readings” Week 15 Day 1: Dramatic Monologue Workshop - Mock Auditions Day 2: Singing Showcase - Each student will sing 2 contrasting "audition ready" cuts

Parental Guidance
Please provide ample water for the student during each class as we will be dancing and singing a lot. They will need to stay hydrated! I also highly recommend they begin to hydrate one hour before each class, to start preparing the vocal chords for singing. Dance shoes are not required, but they are welcome if you have them! When we dance, all that is necessary is a small space, clear from clutter.
Supply List
A black, three ring binder to become the student’s audition book. This holds the sheet music for their "audition ready" songs. Make sure to purchase non glare sheet protectors. This does not need to be ready at the start of the course. It's intended for their personal readiness at upcoming auditions. They should also have a current resume and headshot (this does not need to be professionally taken).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Florida
Some days will consist of dancing and yoga. I am qualified to teach in both areas. In addition to those degrees and certifications, I also have 15 years of professional experience as a stage performer. I have performed all over the country and on Broadway.
I attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from the University of Florida. This program provided intensive dance training. I previously trained at various studios ever since I was a little girl. I am fully capable of leading a well rounded and safe dance class and will always do a thorough warm up to protect the students from injuries.
I also received my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification from One Yoga in Kho Pha-ngan, Thailand. Yoga has always been a huge benefit to me as a performer, which is why I am excited to incorporate that knowledge into this theater intensive course.
