The class will begin with a welcome and check in, review group agreements, do a group gentle physical warm-up, and then begin learning short sections of original choreography in the style of musical theatre dance. These movements will explore character physicality, strengthen public presentation skills, and strengthen hand-eye-full body coordination. Mara's teaching style is interactive and collaborative, checking in at key points with each student for any feedback or adjustments. The group agreements are in place for all, students and teacher alike. Mara uses her previous experience teaching youth and non-"dancers" to inform adapting the pace of instruction based on students' processing and learning style. Music will be from original cast recordings of musicals and movie musicals such as the following (subject to change): Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, &Juliet, The Lion King Kids, Frozen Kids, Aristocats Kids, Moana, Wicked NEED A DIFFERENT CLASS TIME, AGE RANGE, OR SKILL LEVEL? Other Details
Parental Guidance
Learners should have loosely fitted and stretchy clothing during class. I recommend having a water bottle or source of water nearby. Please also make sure your child takes the class in an open area, ideally clear of large tripping hazards or somewhere where they may put themselves in danger. I also recommend a floor that is not slippery. But if it is slippery, I recommend non-stick socks or shoes (like a tennis shoe/sneaker).
Supply List
Wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle to keep hydrated!
