Homework
1-2 hours per week. Learners will be encouraged to practice on a daily basis. This includes a vocal regimen and working on vocal and acting tips that are relevant to their audition songs.Class Experience
Below is an example of topics that will be covered in the first 4 private meetings. Depending on the learner's specific goals and past experience, this private section will be catered to each learner's level and needs. Week 1 Example Topic: Breath Support, Relaxation Technique, Basic Vocal Regimen/ Singing Foundations Week 2 Example Topic: Resonation Technique, Basic Vocal Regimen/ Song Application Week 3 Example Topic: Advancing Vocal Regimen for Control, Agility, Clarity and Strength/ Workshop Song Material Week 4 Example Topic: Layer Acting and Storytelling Choices onto the Memorized Audition Song/ Mock Audition Practice A typical voice lesson would begin with a thorough warm up that is meant to develop vocal range, power and clarity of tone. Proper breathing and resonation techniques are taught throughout the warm ups. Depending on the needs of the student, the latter part of the coaching would focus on current or new song repertoire. The student is welcome to bring in their own song material if they choose to! I am also happy to assign new material for a student in an ongoing way. I can also help build an "audition book", so that the student has a variety of ready to go audition material if they are choosing to pursue musical theater. Another primary area of focus is storytelling through the material. Casting directors will be looking for believable and compelling acting choices. Sometimes this is seen as far more important than the quality of the voice itself in musical theater. Because of this, I provide a fun atmosphere to work on both acting and singing technique, while encouraging the student to step into their confidence and star quality. This is an open level class as I can cater the teaching style to the student's needs. I believe in positive, constructive feedback and endeavor to bring the star presence out in all of my students! I teach that singing should be done in a passionate and honest way. I give high emphasis to healthy techniques in order to protect the vocal chords and enable students to perform 8 shows a week in a consistent way. Learning to connect with the piece and act through it is one of my focus areas. I endeavor to bring the performance aspect out in every piece! My background is in musical theatre but as that spans all genres and vocal styles, I can cater the lesson to the student's personal style preferences and goals. This class is taught in English.
