Class Experience

This class provides young talent with more than just foundational training in the three most important areas of musical theater. It's a wonderful resource for those seriously interested in theater as a hobby or profession. Through advancing, weekly classes in acting, singing and musical theater dance, this ongoing, subscription based class is meant to develop confidence and lay the groundwork to become a true triple threat. Each week, students will either train in one of the three areas (or multiple) of musical theater training or advance in audition technique!

Here is an example of 4 typical class meetings:

Voice Technique: Warm up regimen and technique to build healthy vocal development
Musical Theater Dance Class: Students will learn Broadway choreography from "Cats"
Acting Technique: How to prepare for a role
Mock Audition Day: Students will workshop two contrasting 16 bar audition cuts
Learning Goals
A typical class consists of one of the following areas:

Voice: 1) Healthy vocal techniques to protect throat health. 2) A variety of rigorous warm up regimens to develop vocal strength, range, consistency and tonal clarity. 3) Students will have the opportunity to build their "audition book" (a collection of audition ready song cuts in various styles) 4) Mock audition practice

Acting: 1) Various acting techniques, as well as the origins of those techniques 2) How to approach, interpret and prepare play text 3) How to prepare for a role 4) Improvisational techniques and games 5) Other acting games meant to develop emotional range, specific acting choices and quick instinct 6) Monologue memorization and preparation 7) Mock audition practice

Dance: 1) Various combos will be taught to develop the dancer's ability to learn choreography quickly. This will prepare them for MT auditions 2) Proper stretch and strength warm ups will be practiced 3) Foundational dance technique 4) Dance styles taught will vary but will mostly relate to musical theater dance or tap

Other Details

Parental Guidance
I will endeavor to always choose age appropriate material for the student's to work with. However, acting sometimes includes portraying characters with questionable/objectionable actions since it is an actor's job to believably portray real people in real life scenarios. Also, some musical theater songs can include suggestive lyrics. I will be mindful and discerning when promoting specific material. I invite you to reach out and let me know if you have any issues with the material I choose.
Supply List
I suggest purchasing a black, three ring binder and non glare sheet protectors to be the bones of the student's "audition book". I suggest printing out the sheet music of each audition song the student prepares. Make sure these are in the right key. Sometimes, these songs can be found online and digitally printed out, with key transposition options.
