Beginner Level
In this 6 meeting writing and acting workshop, students will not only have the chance to collaborate and write their original short play together, but they will also get to perform it virtually. They will gain experience in the performer’s process by auditioning, rehearsing and performing each play! Meeting 1: Playwriting collaboration day! Students will meet and break the ice through fun improv acting games! They will then be guided through their initial brainstorming session together as a playwriting team. Student volunteers who are interested in being the playwrights will then be assigned different scenes to write before our next meeting! Meeting 2: Students will complete their brainstorming session and outline for their original work. The incomplete scenes will be assigned to those who wish to do the writing. Meeting 3: Students will piece all of their completed scenes together and practice editing them as a team. This will be a chance to correct grammar, fill any gaps and create a strong flow to their play. Meeting 4: Auditions! Students will be put through a virtual audition process to be officially cast in their finished original play. They will be asked to read sides for various characters. The official cast list will be posted in the classroom page following this class meeting. Meeting 5: Rehearsal Day - Students will rehearse their work on this day! Direction and acting notes will be given. Meeting 6: Virtual play performance - Students will perform their original written work!
