Class Experience
In this 1 on 1 private audition coaching, the learner will have the opportunity to workshop their prepared material and gain direction and confidence with their acting and vocal choices. If the student is bringing in a brief song or two contrasting cuts, I will begin with a thorough vocal warm up to protect and train the vocal muscles. The goal of a consistent vocal warm up, especially leading up to an audition, is to build vocal clarity, stamina, range and power. It is also meant to protect the chords and diminish unhealthy vocal habits. For a musical theater audition, a trained singer will stand out and leave a much stronger impression on the casting directors. After the vocal warm up, the student will sing and workshop their song/songs and will be given vocal tips on placement, power and stylistic choices, if applicable. I recommend having a piano backing track ready to sing along with for the session. The songs should be memorized. The student will also get direction on finding the character's intention, as well as tips on how to emotionally connect to the material and engage their audience well. If the student is bringing in a monologue, I recommend the monologue be fully memorized prior to the session, so the time can be used to hone and clarify their acting choices. We will workshop the monologue to work towards clear intention, deeper vulnerability, greater dynamic and believability. I also welcome bookings from students who are looking for other audition guidance. This session can act as a consultation concerning audition or callback preparation, the introduction once in the room, tips on how to relate to the casting directors, how to write a resume and pick a strong actor headshot etc. My goal is to build the student's overall confidence with the material, so they can go into their audition feeling fully prepared and ready to stand out.
