US Grade 8 - 11
This meeting will examine theories about people and how they make changes successfully and with intention. Mindful change and facilitation of the change process are the underpinnings of professional counseling. This class is useful for anyone considering a career in a human services field (health, medicine, education, government) or for those who are looking to expand their own methods for creating personal positive change/growth. We will look at resources including: G. Corey's The Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy 4th Ed (1991) C. A. Essau's Adolescent Addiction (2008) and Bruce Alexander's The Globalization of Addiction (2008) Learners do not need to obtain any of these resources. Learners will articulate their own experiences with the change process and give insight as to when they are most or least successful in executing their change goals. Learners will share one short term goal with the group. Learners will be given an accountability partner, and will check in about each other's goals and progress 2 weeks after the live meeting occurs. If you wish to opt out of the accountability partner activity (requires sharing an email address), please advise upon enrollment.
