Our emotions affect our learning, creativity, and problem solving. According to CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social Emotional Learning), “SEL is the process through which all young people acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.” This mindfulness session includes: *We begin with a simple check-in. This promotes self and social awareness. *A few mindfulness exercises will help to connect mind and body. These exercises are proven, through research, to help with focus and balancing of energy. *We conclude the session with a relaxing guided meditation.

Teacher expertise and credentials
2 Degrees
Master's Degree in Education from University of Phoenix
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University
I have over 20 years of experience teaching grades 3 through 8. I hold a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University, where I studied Elementary Education. In addition, I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My classroom environment fosters imagination, growth, and experimentation. Students feel safe exploring the learning process, and proud of their accomplishments. My passion for teaching many subject areas, but particularly reading, writing, arts, and SEL is quite evident as I often believe in weaving the disciplines together in a cross-curricular approach. I have attended several SEL conferences over the years to keep up on the most current SEL practices. In my free time I enjoy practicing yoga and meditation, reading, blogging, and writing poetry. Sharing this passion with students is a tremendous joy!
