Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten
Beginner Level
This fun class is an introduction to numbers. You will learn that the number 1 represents 1 object, 2 represents 2 objects, and so on up to 10. You will learn through song, stories, counting fingers, toes, and small world objects that you have at home (lego pieces, counters, small animals - parents/carers will need to provide you with 10 pieces of the same-sized objects). Eventually, you will be able to add numbers together (first to 5, and then to 10 - number bonds - 4 + 1, 3 + 2, 1 + 9, 2 + 8 etc.,) and then to subtract numbers, first from 5 and then from 10. You will learn doubling and halving, all about shapes and their properties (how many sides, 2D, 3D) and odds and evens!

These classes are a gentle, fun introduction to maths to ensure that you understand that numbers represent the same amount of different objects. Each week we will learn the concept for the week and then complete simple, fun worksheets together to help you understand them.

This is what we will be learning each week:
W/C 2nd January 2023: how numbers correspond to an amount of objects that can be counted.
W/C 9th January: continuing numbers and counting
W/C 16th January: compare numbers to objects, odds and even numbers
W/C 23rd January: continuing to compare numbers to objects, odds and even numbers
W/C 30th January: basic addition to 5, number bonds to 5
W/C 6th February: continuing addition within 5, moving to addition within 10
W/C 13th February: simple subtraction within 5
THEREAFTER:
continuing simple subtraction within 5, moving to simple subtraction within 10
simple doubles to 10
simple halving from 10
all about shapes and their properties
more about shapes - including 2D and 3D
repeating patterns
finding more or less (fewer)
