Story Time for Early Readers

This class is perfect for early readers that LOVE listening to stories. Each class we will read a book, talk about what happened and build the skills that children need to develop to become independent readers.

Class Experience

Sharing books and exploring stories is one of my favourite things. There is so much opportunity to grow children's knowledge and Did you know there are important skills that you need to learn to be able to read? In our sessions I will introduce these important pre reading skills and provide opportunity to practice these skills.

Week Beginning 21st October: Celeste the Giraffe Loves to Laugh
Week Beginning 28th October: King Pig
Week Beginning 5th November: Monster Chef
Week Beginning 12th November: Farmer Duck
Week Beginning 19th November: Edward the Emu
Week Beginning 26th November: The Rainbow Fish

The Reading skills introduced will be based on the needs and level of children in the group. This may include some oral language games, introducing extended letter sounds such as vowel and consonant digraphs and manipulating the sounds in words. We will also develop comprehension skills by talking about what happened in the story, sequencing different events and relating the book to other stories or events.

Students who need opportunities to build their oral language skills and pre-reading skills such as rhyme, syllables, initial sounds and early blending would be best suited to the Pre Reader version of this class.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like any additional information. If a class time does not suit, please request am alternative time.

I look forward to hearing from you and meeting your learner in class.

Libby 😊

I have over 20 years experience as a teacher, including working in school leadership. I am passionate about great quality education and making learning accessible to everyone. I love teaching in all areas of literacy and helping learners build skills and confidence in reading and writing.

I have taught children from 3 years old to 12 years old and love working with a variety of ages. I believe in making learning interesting and using teaching strategies that are proven to work. I offer 1-1 tutoring, classes based on oral language, pre-school classes and special interest groups like Lego or book club. If you have a request please let me know!

I'd also love to work with some homeschool families this year, offering assessments to check student's literacy skills and suggestions for moving forward. If that interests you, please get in touch.
