Intermediate Level
Join this weekly, ongoing, fun and interactive English class for children aged 6 to 8! I will help your learner develop their reading, writing, and speaking skills in a supportive and engaging environment. I use games, songs, and other activities to make learning fun and effective. Your student will learn new vocabulary, grammar rules, and sentence structures while building their confidence and creativity. Sign up now and give your child the gift of language! When you join this class, your child will learn how to draw information from fun fiction and non-fiction texts, as well as how to identify verbs, adverbs, nouns, noun phrases, adjectives, and adverbs alongside a variety of other things they need to know to make their writing absolutely amazing and to build their reading and comprehension skills! *Please note, this is NOT a beginner English class. Students must be able to read texts (by blending sounds in trickier words, if necessary) that are applicable for their age. Week beginning 2.10/2023: we are learning about nouns and will look at normal and Fractured Fairytales! (Fairytales with a twist to them!) Week beginning 9.10/2023: we are learning about verbs and will continue looking at Fractured Fairytales. Week beginning 16.10/2023: we are learning about adjectives and will write our own Fairytale. Week beginning: 23.10/2023: we are learning about adverbs and will write some brilliant sentences using nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
Learning Goals
Each week we will briefly concentrate on learning a different aspect English; for example; nouns, noun phrases, verbs, adjectives and adverbs and how we use them when we write. Come and learn how to recognise these when you read different texts! Over time, we will also look at why some sounds read differently in sentences (soft 'c'; hard 'c'; soft 'g'; silent 'k', 'g', and 'w'; words with 'tch'; 'wh' and 'ph' words; and words ending in 'le'; 'el'; 'al'; and 'il')? When do we add 'ing'; 'ed'; 'er'; 'est' and 'y' to words? How do we use capital letters, commas and apostrophes, questions marks and exclamation marks, as well as suffixes and prefixes? There's so much to learn and you'll learn it by watching, reading, writing and practicing using worksheets. Come and find out the answers to all these questions! We will be reading some amazing short stories and look at how they have been written, the language the author has used, and the pictures the story paints in our heads. We will also look at personification and how you can make an inanimate object come to life!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have more years of experience than I care to think about (!) in delivering English to children from primary age, right through to young adults. I have taught many young adults who failed to pass their English GCSE in school to gain the almost equivalent Functional Skills English qualification after they have left school.
This is a topic I am extremely passionate about - literacy skills are a vital necessity in life. If a person can read, they can learn. If they can read, they can write. If they know the rules for grammar and punctuation, they can write well!
Outside of Outschool, I also work as a proofreader for students at two local universities and as an editor for authors of both fiction and non-fiction books. I am also a published author.
