Class experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn phase 2 to phase 5 phonic sounds, how to blend and sound out cvc, ccvc, cvcc words, and how to sight-read 'tricky words' that cannot be sounded out.
I have taught phonics (and English in general) for more years than I care to think about! It is an area I am extremely passionate about because I truly believe that a child who enjoys reading and writing has a real head-start to lifelong learning.
Homework Offered
Please read to your learner/s as often as possible, letting them see the words on the page. This will help them to recognise that letters make sounds and that the sounds blend into words naturally.
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Lined paper
Pencil
Eraser
You will need to print out the handouts I provide for your child to get the most from these sessions.
Your children may need help writing the sounds and words as they learn them. If you could ask them to say the sound out loud as they trace and write it, it will help embed their understanding.
You can also help your child by asking them to tell you whenever they see the sounds of the day in written form as this will help them to understand that sounds blend together to make words. This could be in books you read with them, or in a newspaper, or on notices, in shops you visit (Covid allowing!) - there are signs everywhere that you could point out to help them. The park is a good place for signs - there may be 'keep off the grass' or 'please do not feed the ducks' signs. Words are all around us - if you can help your child see them, it will help them learn.
Any worksheets required will be put into the classroom so that you can print them out prior to class. There will not necessarily be a worksheet for each week. Students will need lined paper and a pencil so that they can copy the sounds they learn.

Welcome to my profile and thank you for visiting!

I've worked in primary education for more years than I care to think about. Yes, I'm probably somewhat older than the majority of teachers on here, but don't let that put you off. I have a...
