Puppets are magical! Almost everyone is captivated when an object acts like it's alive! In this class learners from 6 to 11 will make a variety of simple puppets and learn how to bring them to life! You don't need any prior experience! Just a willingness to explore and play! Each class will begin with a quick overview of the puppet style featured that day. Learners will stretch their imaginations as they take common items and turn them into dynamic puppet characters. Through Ed's instruction, each learner will create an original puppet character. After the puppet is made, learners will learn how to make the puppet move and how movement can convey character and emotion.
Ed is a professional puppeteer with over 30 years experience. He has worked in film, television, and theater during his career as a puppeteer. He owns his own company Runaway Puppet Theater that tours regionally performing original productions. Check out his bio for more information about his professional career.
1 file available upon enrollmentA supply list will be sent to learners when they enroll in class. Most of the components will be things that can be found at home. However, there are a few items that may need to be purchased.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be using hot glue to create some of our puppets. It is the quickest way to assemble some of them. Learners will need to be able and comfortable using a hot glue gun. Any learner that is unable to use a hot glue gun safely will need a parent present during class to assist.
Each learner will receive a list of supplies that we will use to make the puppets. Most of the components will be things found at home. However, there are a few items that may need to be purchased. Each week learners will receive a message letting them know what specific materials we will need to make our puppets that week.
