Class Experience

It is a dark time in the galaxy. With Palpatine declaring himself Emperor, the new Galactic Empire continues to spread and take control of planets once under the Republic. However, there are a few who are trying to slow the spread of Imperial influence. They continue to resist the spread of the Empire. The Empire is relentless in finding these pockets of resistance before they become a full-fledged Rebellion!

This ongoing class will allow learners to adventure in the Star Wars Universe. Set in the time period of the Galactic Civil War (just between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope), the learners will create mighty adventurers using a version of the Dungeons & Dragons 5e rules modified for a Star Wars setting. The adventurers will be able to create brand new heroes and take them on adventures weekly. As the characters continue the adventure, they will gain in knowledge and power!

The students will need to work together to help their allies, fight off villains, and discover a secret project that the Empire is working on. During the adventure students will have the opportunity to strengthen their skills in team work, problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, leadership, and verbal expression. Students will also extend upon their knowledge of math and reading.

Class schedule is as follows:

11/10/2021 Our first class will be character creation. Using a version of the Dungeons & Dragons 5e rules we will create characters that will adventure into the Star Wars Universe.

11/17/2021 The second week will have the learners complete their characters and begin the adventure. Our heroes will find themselves on a remote space station and will have a chance to thwart the capture of an Alderaanian security agent.

12/1/2021 In the third meeting, after dealing with the Alderaanian agent, our heroes will be able to make a choice whether they want to assist her with smuggling supplies and information to a growing rebellion, or will they continue on their own course hoping to avoid any "Imperial entanglements."

12/8/2021 Subsequent classes will be directed by the learners choices. The heroes' actions will have consequences, and their decisions may alter how the game progresses.

Classes are currently scheduled to begin Wednesday, November 10 at 5:30pm central time and continue the following weeks on the same day of the week and time.

We will be using Roll20.net to visualize our encounters. Learners can sign up for a free Roll20.net account if they wish. A Roll20.net account is not required to enroll in class.

    Hi, I'm Ed!

I'm so happy to be teaching on Outschool!

I'm a professional puppeteer, a gamer, and a home school dad!

During my career as a puppeteer I've performed with the Muppets, the Jim Henson Company, and Sesame Street among others. I've been a puppeteer on feature films, tv shows, and videos throughout my 30+ year career. I have toured internationally with Walking with Dinosaurs-the Arena Spectacular for the past 11 years. Currently I own a company that tours throughout the Southeast.

As a home school dad I helped teach my son his entire school career.

I'm a huge fan of games, especially role-playing games! Playing a role playing game can improve skills like math, reading, comprehension, team work, and creative problem solving.

Students learn better when they are in an environment where they want to learn. Using puppetry and games, I've been able to educate students of all ages on a variety of topics. In fact, puppetry and games can be used to teach any subject under the sun!
