Class Experience

For over 80 years Marvel Comics has been publishing some of the most iconic heroes in pop culture. These days with the comics and films being hugely popular, more folks than ever before are fans of Marvel characters!

Whether you're a longtime fan of Marvel or just learning about the Marvel Universe, we want to talk about it and hear your thoughts and ideas! Everyone is welcome!

In this ongoing class we will discuss Marvel comics and films, the characters, teams, history, and events. We'll do some "deep dives" into a variety to topics. Not only will we talk about the most popular heroes of today, but we will take about the various heroes that Marvel has published throughout it's history. We'll also talk about the creators who have brought the heroes to life over the years. I will pick a weekly topic that all learners are welcome to discuss.

Here's a sample of what we will discuss in our club:
-Spider-Man: What Makes Him so Amazing?
-The Hulk: You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry
-Iron Man: Intelligence is a Super Power!
-The Fantastic Four: The First Family of Comics
-Captain America: The Star Spangled Avenger!
-Stan Lee: The Co-Creator of the Characters! Excelsior!
-The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
-The Golden Age: Comics and Characters from the 1940's
-Genre Study: Marvel's Cosmic Outer Space Heroes
-Marvel Comics vs. Marvel Movies: How are they the same? How are they different?
-X-Men: Superheroes as "Outsiders"
-Black Panther: Wakanda Forever!

There will also be opportunities for learners to suggest topics they'd like to talk about as well!

Each week before the class, I will send out a message with the topic for the next class. The learners will then have a chance to conduct some research on their own about the topic to share in class.

I can't wait to talk about Marvel with you!

Excelsior!
Learning Goals
This class will give learners a chance to talk and learn about their favorite Marvel characters. When we discuss the origin of some characters, they will be put into their context. This will offer some historical insights. We will also work on critical thinking, public speaking, sharing ideas, and evaluating arguments. Since we'll be talking about our opinions about the Marvel Universe, we will also work on respecting other's views, especially if they differ from our own.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Ed!

I'm so happy to be teaching on Outschool!

I'm a professional puppeteer, a gamer, and a home school dad!

During my career as a puppeteer I've performed with the Muppets, the Jim Henson Company, and Sesame Street among others. I've been a puppeteer on feature films, tv shows, and videos throughout my 30+ year career. I have toured internationally with Walking with Dinosaurs-the Arena Spectacular for the past 11 years. Currently I own a company that tours throughout the Southeast.

As a home school dad I helped teach my son his entire school career.

I'm a huge fan of games, especially role-playing games! Playing a role playing game can improve skills like math, reading, comprehension, team work, and creative problem solving.

Students learn better when they are in an environment where they want to learn. Using puppetry and games, I've been able to educate students of all ages on a variety of topics. In fact, puppetry and games can be used to teach any subject under the sun!

Please look over my classes here on Outschool. If you have any questions or suggestions for classes you'd like to see, please get in touch with me!
