The Death Curse sweeps across the land, it's victims slowly withering away. All efforts to stop the curse have failed! It is up to you, mighty heroes, to travel to the mysterious land of Chult! You must journey through the dense jungle, dangerous volcanic plains, and the ruins of fallen kingdoms to stop the curse before it's too late! Learners will create new heroes to adventure across the jungles of Chult. The adventure and the success of the heroes will be determined by their choices and actions! Previous experience is NOT a requirement! We welcome all learners regardless of experience or skill level. Rules will be taught as needed. Our first class will consist of character creation. We will go beyond the numbers to create fully fleshed out personalities. These personal details will inform the learner's decisions about how their character will react in different scenarios. Please note: we will be using the 2014 D&D 5e Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything to create characters. The options presented there will be the ones available for player characters. To make sure that the campaign is fun for everyone we have these rules in place: 1. No evil characters: This adventure is about mighty heroes trying to overcome an immense evil force determined to reshape the world. 2. Create a character that will work with others: Remember that RPG’s are a team sport. They work best when all the characters work together to achieve goals and overcome obstacles. While your character doesn’t have to be BFF’s with all the other characters, they need to at least be willing to work with the others for a common goal. No angry, edgy loners! 3. No PvP: In the spirit of working together as a team sport, PvP (Player vs. Player combat) is not allowed. 4. No attacking innocent NPCs: This adventure takes place in a living world where actions have consequences. While battles against villains and monsters are part of the game, unprovoked attacks on innocent townsfolk, shopkeepers, or allies are not allowed. The goal is to create a heroic story, not chaos. 5. No Metagaming: Some of the fun of D&D is encountering surprises. If you haven't read the adventure before you start this campaign, please don't start! You may have already read the campaign before you begin this class. However, please try to not use your knowledge of the adventure during the game. Avoiding encounters and obstacles during the campaign will make the entire experience less fun. The No Metagaming rule extends to the Monster Manual. You may look up creature stats before or after class, but using the Monster Manual during class is strictly prohibited! 6. Honor System for dice rolls: You are welcome to use physical dice or an online dice roller for class. Please be honest with your dice rolls. Always succeeding makes the adventure really boring really fast. The jungles of Chult await! And beware the Green Devil Face!
Learning Goals
Role playing games are excellent vehicles to work on academic skills like reading, math, and social studies. They are also outstanding ways to practice team work, leadership, negotiation, creative problem solving, and imagination!
Other Details
Supply List
Learners will need a way to roll rpg dice during class. These are dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20 sides. You are welcome to use physical dice, a dice rolling app (I like Dice by 7Pixels), or an online dice roller. Learners will also need to bring their character sheet with them for each class.
