What's included
Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 4
This is an English Writing flex class for students who love journaling, writing down their ideas and want to get daily writing practice and feedback. This class will not meet face-to-face. Each week will consist of 5 tasks to allow learners to complete a journal each day to improve their writing skills. Learners will work collaboratively to improve their writing skills and knowledge. One of the benefits of this flex class can be that learners can take as much time as they want to review materials and the recordings. With writing, I think this can be beneficial. English Writing Course Week 1 - People and Places Using full stops correctly Using capital letters correctly Week 2 - Writing about Feelings Using commas in lists Using contractions (eg I'd like to...) Week 3 - School Subjects Focusing on spelling Making longer sentences Week 4 - Hopes and Fears Describe feelings and using adjectives Use verbs for the future Week 5 - Places Around the World Describe places around the world Describe directions using prepositions Week 6 - Birthdays and Celebrations Use paragraphs Describe past, present and future Use a range of verbs in writing Each week will include vocabulary, grammar and input on ideas. Five tasks will be set each week along with five 5-7 minute long videos. Learners will be provided with scaffolding for each of the tasks that they can follow. Each day will include input on suggested language learners may wish to use along with grammatical structures that will suit the topics. Learners are welcome to include doodles and drawings along with their journal entries. The idea is that learners will upload their work each day to the classroom and keep a journal in English during the course. The teacher will provide feedback via the classroom on uploaded work. Learners will be required to: βοΈShare ideas with other learners by completing 5x weekly journal tasks. βοΈ Post 5x paragraphs a week in the Classroom for instructor feedback. βοΈ Critique and comment on classmates' paragraphs. βοΈ Respond to discussion questions in the Classroom. A flex course allows learners to cover material during a time that is convenient for them each week. Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly via the Outschool classroom, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner. After weekly lessons, students can collaborate with their peers by replying to the announcements and lesson postings in the Outschool classroom. Participation will include the Introduction post, discussion posts, assignments, and projects in the Classroom. This allows students to process what they are learning by collaborating with peers and the teacher. Participation in assignments allows students to practise and reinforce learning. This also provides opportunities for the teacher to gauge student learning and provide interventions if necessary. Private messages or classroom comments are usually responded to within 24 hours with the exception of Mondays and Tuesdays. This course is taught by Teacher Helen. The videos will be available for the length of the course. Please donβt hesitate to contact me with further questions. I look forward to being part of your learning journey!
